Gombe state police command confirmed the success of arresting 8 suspected criminals in the state, in it's effort to wipe away all kind of criminal act, in line with constitutional responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Ishola Babatunde Babaita, who is the current commissioner in the state confirmed the arrest in his statement issued to newsmen by SP. Obed Mary Malum, who is the command spokesman. And the announcement was made on Tuesday.
The suspect captured include six impersonation suspects, and two bandits. According to the police, all the suspects were arrested at different times and locations.
The statement also explained that, based on the complaints received, police operatives together with Gombe state intelligence Bereau, arrested the 42 years old Ahmad Ladan, who Also Known As Sarkin Baja, and 32 years old suspect, called Halliru Umar Aliyu. In connection to a case of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping extortion and intimidation.
Babatunde Babaita narrates that "It was in the year 2021, the first suspect named Aliyu of Tudun Wada quarters Gombe state was given a tricycle to ride, after the failure of his business by his sister in-law.
"But unfortunately the said Aliyu recklessly sold the tricycle at the sum of N250,000.00 without the consent of the owner" said Babatunde.
"So at the end, the suspect failed to bring neither the money nor the tricycle to the owner. And on 30th December 2021 he conspired with the second suspect named Ladan, and faked a kidnapped of the said Aliyu with the intention to extort his elder sister named Zainab Umar Aliyu, at the sum of N500,000.00 to enable him refund the money"
Babatunde Babaita also explained that, the suspect called, using her brother's phone, and threatened the victim that if they fail to pay the said amount, then they will kill the victim.
The investigation is still on going, and the suspects will soon be changed to court for prosecution.
Babatunde lastly called on people with such terrible act to quickly desist. He also assures the good people of Gombe state of their readiness and commitment in fulfilling the state constitutional mandate.
